1. Lead Instructor of Vocational Programs

Lead Instructors lead vocational training workshops using the custom/adapted Beacons curriculum for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Instructors help develop and update curriculum, devise learning tools to support activities, and work with associate instructors to optimize the learning experiences and growth of trainees in the workshops. Leads also serve as Beacons ambassadors with the community and other organizations, and are responsible for working with the division program directors to develop and fill the workshops.

Hourly Pay Rate: $22 - $25

 

2. Associate Instructor Studio Beacons

The Associate Instructor will support and assist the lead instructor in the Creative Arts workshops by

supporting trainees with onsite instruction, in addition to this there may be activities that also include

teaming up with other instructors during group lessons. Instructors also help develop and update

curriculum, provide instruction on the tools and processes to support activities, and help to organize

and plan events out in the community. Associate instructors will optimize the learning experiences and

growth of all artists in the studio, and use their creativity to develop teaching tools to help optimize the

learning of individuals with mild/moderate learning disabilities. Part-time positions may lead to a

full-time associate instructor’s position and/or lead instructor position.

Hourly Pay Rate $18-$21

3. Associate Instructor

Associate Instructor will support and assist the lead instructor for the Explorer workshop(s), help with pre- and post assessments, complete progress reporting for the workshop(s), support trainees with onsite instruction (or zoom as appropriate), collaborate with the Lead Instructor to update and revise curriculum, and use their creativity to develop teaching tools to help optimize the learning of individuals with mild/moderate learning disabilities.  Part-time positions may lead to a full-time associate instructor’s position and/or lead instructor position.

Hourly Pay Rate $18-$21

4. Substitute Associate Instructors (All Programs) 
The Associate Instructor will support and assist the lead instructor for the workshop(s) or 1:1 client driven program, help with pre- and post assessments, complete progress reporting for the workshop(s), support trainees with onsite instruction (or zoom as appropriate), and use their creativity to develop teaching tools to help optimize the learning of individuals with mild/moderate learning disabilities. Substitute positions may lead to permanent associate instructor’s position and/or lead instructor position.

Hourly Pay Rate: $18 - $20

Good things to know:

1. Paid Internships

The State of CA will fund an internship at your workplace to help a trainee learn skills to work towards employment. State funding covers worker's comp, wages and other employee costs. Free job coaching is also available so that the impact on the employer's staff is nominal.

2. Hiring Credits

If you hire someone with a disability, the business may be eligible for tax credits!

 

 

3. Funding to renovate work space

Funding to make space more accessible and/or funding to renovate space to remove barriers! (See flyer on this page!)

Sample success stories:

Bitchin' Sauce - Their team created a special 3-hour shift and provided group training to help our trainees successfully work in their food production department. 

Callaway Golf and ViaSat partnered with Beacons to help trainees develop employment skills through paid internships.
 

City of Carlsbad - A trainee who completed our office skills workshop helped the City with workers' compensation records.

 

Home Depot, Sprouts and other businesses have supported our trainees!
